![]() July 2nd 2020 I went in for scleral buckle surgery. I tried to get a second opinion but there was no time. The days before surgery I mostly stared at the ceiling as to not strain my eyes. I had to get COVID tested or else it would have been the next day. I called my parents and they asked questions like: will I feel the band forever (no), what are the complications: streaky vision -which could be fixed with surgery, blindness, and so much more. Her gut was telling her surgery was the better idea. She said we could either use a laser or sew a scleral buckle around my eye. I was trying to hold back tears as I asked all of the questions I could think. Me usually being an anxious hypochondriac was shocked. ![]() She said I had 3 atrophic holes with lattice degeneration and that we would need to do emergency surgery. She took a step back and explained what was going on. looked at my right eye no problem, but I could feel her demeanor change as she rattled off a bunch of complex terms to her assistant about what she was seeing in my left eye. The flash lasted a millisecond so I wasn’t that worried, but after two weeks of it happening a bit, and my optometrist telling me not to wait, I made an appointment to see an ophthalmologist that was a retinal specialist on June 30th 2020. I didn’t think much of it just that maybe I needed less screen time. June 2020 I was watching tik toks in my bed and saw a quick purple line of light cross the corner of my left eye. No known causes for this detachment, my great aunt had an eye issue and so does my aunt, I believe macular degeneration, but other than that nothing really.
